First visit
Your first visit to the osteopath – FAQ
Coming to an osteopath for the first time? This page answers the questions clients ask before their first visit: what happens at the appointment, what to wear, whether you need a referral and whether Kela or insurance covers the treatment.
My clinic is in Metsälä, Helsinki, and I have treated musculoskeletal problems for over 30 years. A warm welcome!

What happens at the appointment?
We start by going through the background of your pain: when the symptoms began, what makes them worse and what eases them, and which treatments you have already tried.
Then I examine and assess the mobility of your joints and spine and your muscles. After a thorough examination, I give targeted treatment to the muscles and joints of the problem areas.
Finally, we go through what is most likely causing your symptoms, and you get suitable exercises to do at home. Book a 60-minute appointment for your first visit so that there is enough time for the examination, treatment and exercises.
Preparation
Before your visit
- Book online, or call or text +358 40 557 3874.
- Wear flexible clothing. You do not need to undress, as the examination and treatment can be done through clothing.
- If you like, bring any previous medical reports and scan results.
- Think in advance about when your symptoms started and what makes them worse or better.
The clinic is on the second floor of the R5 gym. Follow the R5 signs and wait in the waiting area in the hallway – I will come and collect you.
Afterwards
After your visit
Carry on with your day as normal and do your exercises as instructed. Some mild tenderness in the treated area is possible and usually passes within a couple of days.
Follow-up visits are agreed as needed. For an acute problem, 1–3 visits may be enough; for long-lasting problems we typically work through a series of 3–5 visits.
